As contaminated gas flows through the porous media, fine liquid droplets are captured on the fiber surfaces through inertial impaction and Brownian diffusion. This process continues until droplets become large enough to overcome the media's capillary forces, after which they drain away by gravity or are separated in a downstream collection section.
