Pre-filters operate on mechanical filtration principles where water passes through a porous media (such as polypropylene, cellulose, or pleated fabric) that physically traps particles larger than the pore size. As water flows through the filter media, suspended solids are retained on the surface or within the depth of the media, allowing cleaner water to pass through to subsequent treatment stages.
