Technical details and manufacturing context for Order Picker

Definition
An order picker raises the operator cab together with the forks or platform so workers retrieve individual cartons or pieces from rack levels, unlike forklifts that move whole pallets. Low-level models serve first and second beam levels around 2-3 m for fast e-commerce picking; medium and high-level machines reach 10 m and beyond, often wire- or rail-guided in narrow aisles. Pick rates, battery technology, guidance systems, and operator safety interlocks such as harness anchors and platform sensors differentiate machines across brands.
Working Principle
A battery-powered mast lifts the integrated operator platform hydraulically; traction motors drive the truck with speed automatically limited as height increases. In guided aisles, wire or rail guidance steers the truck so the operator focuses on picking, with interlocks stopping travel if gates open or the operator leaves the platform sensor.
Common Materials
welded steel chassis and mast profiles, lift cylinders and chains, polyurethane drive and load wheels, lithium or lead-acid battery systems, AC traction and controller electronics
