INDUSTRY COMPONENT

Dispensing Nozzle

Fluid dispensing nozzles meter and direct liquids into containers through a controlled valve and shaped outlet designed for repeatable filling and shutoff.

Component Specifications

Definition
Fluid dispensing nozzles are the product-contact outlets of filling heads used to meter and direct liquids into containers. A pneumatic, solenoid or mechanically actuated valve opens the flow path; the nozzle bore and outlet geometry control velocity, stream shape, splash and residual dripping at shutoff. Procurement should define product viscosity and particulates, target dose or continuous flow, 50–5,000 mL/s reference flow, 1.5–10 mm orifice, 0.5–6 bar pressure, temperature, cycle rate, anti-drip requirement, connection and cleaning method. Compare 316L stainless steel, seal material, surface finish and drainability against the actual product chemistry and hygiene plan. Published ranges are RFQ references; the legal manufacturer must confirm fill accuracy, food-contact declarations, cleanability and compatibility for the intended liquid and operating cycle.
Working Principle
The actuator opens an internal valve to admit liquid through the nozzle bore and closes it at the commanded fill endpoint. Flow may be gravity-fed, pressure-fed or supplied by a metering device. Tip geometry, valve-seat condition and product viscosity influence stream shape and retained liquid; positive shutoff, suck-back or another anti-drip arrangement can reduce tails and drops. Verification should use representative liquid, the intended pressure and cycle time, with gravimetric fill measurements and inspection for leakage, splash and residue.
Materials
Common wetted materials include 316L stainless steel and PTFE, with ceramic or hardened-steel tips considered for abrasive products. For food-contact service, request declarations applicable to the destination market and verify seal compatibility, surface finish and cleaning chemistry.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should a fluid dispensing nozzle be selected?

Specify the liquid, viscosity, particulates, target dose or flow, pressure, temperature, cycle rate, container opening, connection, cleaning method and acceptable drip or stringing limit. The manufacturer should confirm the final bore, valve and seal arrangement.

How is anti-drip performance verified?

Test the nozzle with representative liquid at the intended pressure and cycle time. Record gravimetric fill results and inspect for leakage, splash, tails and retained product after shutoff; agree the sampling plan and acceptance criteria before ordering.

Which materials suit food-contact dispensing?

316L stainless steel with a compatible seal is a common starting point, but selection depends on chemistry, temperature, abrasion and cleaning agents. Request current food-contact declarations for the destination market and verify cleanability with the manufacturer.
