On a manual weld fixture the parts are pressed onto their rests by hand-operated toggle clamps: a red-handled vertical hold-down clamp locks over centre and holds its spindle against the part while the joint is tacked or welded. The clamp a fixture builder picks decides how much load the part can push back with, how far the arm swings clear for loading, and how well the clamp survives heat and spatter next to the arc. Holding capacity is rated at the spindle position nearest the handle, and ranges from 2.1 kN to 6.7 kN here
Jergens notes that the holding capacity of its vertical toggle clamps applies to the U-bar position closest to the handle. [4] For a fixture, that means a spindle mounted further out on the arm holds less than the catalogue figure, so the spindle position is part of the clamp specification.
Editorial calculation at 4.448 N per lbf: the 503-MBLSC's 1,500 lbf is three times the 207-S's 500 lbf for less than twice the weight. Destaco gives holding capacities up to 5,000 lbf (22,500 N) across its 500 series. [3]
Jergens' 70122 handle moves through 62° and the bar opens 115°; Jergens says its vertical clamps have a minimum 90° opening angle, giving full clearance for loading and unloading. [4] On a fixture, that opening sets how close neighbouring clamps and locators can sit without fouling the part as it goes in.
State the spindle position on the arm and the load the part will push back with during welding, not only the catalogue holding capacity.

Destaco rates the 207 Poor/Low for welding and its forged 500 series Excellent/High
Destaco publishes an application rating for each clamp. The 207-S is rated Excellent/High for assembly and checking fixtures but Poor/Low for welding and machining. [1] The 503-MBLSC is rated Excellent/High for welding and assembly, Fair/Medium for machining and checking fixtures, and Not Recommended for food processing. [2]
Destaco describes the 500 series as weldable vertical hold-down clamps for heavy-duty use in assembly, welding and heavy production, with hardened pivot pins and bushings, a weldable clamping bar and a modular design. [3] The 503-MBLSC's clamp arm style is listed as weldable and its base as a swivel with a locking spring clip. [2]
Destaco fits its Toggle Lock Plus to some 500-series models, a secondary lock that keeps the clamp in its over-centre locked condition and guards against unintended opening, and some models also lock in the open position. [3]
